Pride Month (June) will look a little different moving forward, but it will also mean more Pride throughout the year! Amidst a growing nationwide trend, Oklahomans for Equality has elected to move our Tulsa Pride event to October in 2024 and subsequent years. Pride is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of October 11th through the 13th, which aligns with LGBT History Month and National Coming Out Day. This shift comes as a response to concerns about the scorching temperatures experienced in June that pose significant health risks for heat-related ailments. By transitioning the event to the fall season, we anticipate the Rainbow Run, festival, and parade will become safer and more inclusive for all attendees.
OkEq will still host weekly, smaller-scale events in June. Most notably, we will host our annual Equality Gala on June 22nd, 2024, and we will have a “Pride on Your Street” competition to increase awareness and visibility for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. We will invite people living in the greater Tulsa area to deck out their living quarters with rainbows, flags, and any Pride-themed decor!
We are thankful for all of the support we have received from the community as we build a path toward inclusion, accountability, transparency, and financial sustainability. We look forward to continuing to create spaces to celebrate the resilience, beauty, and power of 2SLGBTQIA+ Oklahomans.
